What is Gear Works?

Gear works is a harm reduction program in that:

  • Provides needle exchange and new sterile equipment to promote the safer injection and inhalation of drugs.
  • Connects clients with health services staff and allows for open, non-judgmental conversations.

Gear works is a drop-in service that provides the following for free:

  • Needles, syringes, meth pipes, crack kits
  • Cookers, alcohol swabs, filters, tourniquets, Vitamin C, and sterile water
  • Sharps containers
  • Condoms and lubricant

You can pick up Gear Works supplies at any of the locations listed here. You do not need an appointment, just drop in during the times listed below.

Where can you get Gear Works supplies?

Perth District Health Unit – Listowel (ask at reception)

135 Main Street East, Unit 103, back of Ward and Uptigrove building

  • Fridays: 9 am to 2 pm

Perth District Health Unit – Stratford (ask at reception)

10 Downie Street, 2nd Floor – Festival Square

653 West Gore Street

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (closed 12 to 1 pm) at both locations

Used needles

Please keep any used needles and syringes in a closed, puncture-proof plastic container.

Testing and Supports

The Sexual Health Clinic offers testing and supports including:

  • Free confidential testing for Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted infections including Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Information on hepatitis A, B, C and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Counselling and treatment referrals
