As a person responsible for providing meals for others, you need to be aware of “Food Recalls and Allergy Alerts” issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The Health Unit only contacts you about some of these alerts; you still need to know about the others because you know the details of your day-to-day menu.

Food recalls can happen 24-7. Is your site prepared? We strongly recommend you sign up to receive notification of recalls and alerts via one of the following:

  • Tweets from @PDHU_Food
  • RSS feed from Healthy Canadians
  • Email from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency
  • Tweets from @CFIA_Food
  • Or by adding the “Recalls and Safety Alerts” app to your smartphone.

You can sign up at Healthy Canadians website or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website.

Designate one person familiar with your menu and ingredients to monitor the alerts daily. If you have a question regarding recalls or alerts, please feel free to call us.
