Perth County  ̶  Influenza is expected to arrive soon in Perth County and the Health Unit is encouraging all residents to get their immunization. Typically, influenza season in Canada runs from November to April. The influenza vaccine is the best way people over 6 months of age can protect themselves and their families from getting sick with the influenza virus.


Residents can get their influenza vaccine at:

  • Family doctor’s offices – ages 6 months and over
  • Pharmacies across Perth County – 5 years of age and older
  • Drop-in community clinic at Spruce Lodge in Stratford (643 West Gore St.)– ages 6 months and over
    • Friday, November 8: 10 am-4 pm
  • Clinics by appointment at the Perth District Health Unit in Stratford and Listowel for children under 5 and their families:
    • Stratford (653 West Gore Street)
      • Wednesday, November 6: 3-8 pm
      • Thursday, November 7: 3-7 pm
      • Thursday, November 14: 4-8 pm
      • Thursday, November 21: 3-7 pm
    • Listowel (135 Main Street East, Unit 103)
      • Wednesday, November 13: 3-7 pm
      • Wednesday, November 20: 3-7 pm

    • As of October 29, 2019, individuals aged 65 years and older who book appointments at PDHU clinics will receive the QIV vaccine (effective against four influenza strains).

FluMist nasal spray vaccine for young children will not be available in Canada this year.


Healthy Habits

To help stop the spread of influenza in the community, the Health Unit advises all residents to take these precautions:

  • Wash hands with soap thoroughly and often
  • Cough or sneeze into your sleeve
  • Keep surfaces and items disinfected
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Get the influenza vaccine.
