A healthy school committee is a group of students who, with adult support, work together to take action on a priority health topic. The committee helps to create a healthy school environment, which can improve student and staff well-being. A healthy schools approach aligns with Foundations for a Healthy School and the School Effectiveness Framework, and may help your school achieve the goals of its school improvement plan.

Perth District Health Unit staff can assist your healthy school committee. We typically follow a six-step process, which matches Ontario Physical and Health Education Association’s healthy schools certification:

  1. Establish a healthy school committee/team
  2. Assess school strengths and needs
  3. Identify a priority topic
  4. Develop an action plan
  5. Take action
  6. Celebrate and reflect
